After more than 15 years as a prosecutor and partner in a big multi-national law firm, Martin joined Ryan, Ryan & Viglione because he recognized that the cases that made him excited to go to work were those where he could fight for people who had been hurt or were being hurt, and where he could use the tools he developed to help make their lives better.
Martin’s career prior to joining Ryan, Ryan & Viglione provided a range of experiences that he draws upon every day to effectively represent his clients. He began his professional life exploring a career in architecture and gaining valuable experience in construction and design before deciding to go to law school. After being sworn in as an attorney, Martin was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County where he honed his trial skills in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate court level. Martin served in the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau handling numerous appeals, arguing before the Illinois Appellate Court, and trying numerous jury trials and hundreds of bench trials, always advocating for the victims of crimes and seeking justice for those victims on behalf of the citizens of Illinois. Martin gained valuable civil litigation experience in the Federal Civil Rights and Torts Unit and the Complex Litigation Unit, achieving successful results in federal jury trials and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Martin then left public service to join a large, multi-national law firm where he was made a Partner and diversified his experience even further. He represented multi-national contractors, utility providers, municipal corporations, and management agencies related to tort claims, OSHA violations, code violations, premises liability, negligence, and contract disputes. He litigated numerous business disputes related to fiduciary duties, fraud, and employment issues. As the law firm grew to over 300 attorneys, Martin proved to clients, colleagues, and opponents alike that he was a results-oriented attorney that could learn quickly and adapt to the specific needs of any case.
